American fresh-cut fruits and vegetables producer Taylor Farms has voluntarily suspended the production of salad mix and leafy greens at its facility in Mexico.

The company notified the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that it has suspended shipment of any salad mix, leafy green, or salad mix components from its operations in Mexico to the US.

This move comes after the FDA announced on 2 August that Taylor Farms de Mexico was the supplier of salad mix implicated by public health authorities in Iowa and Nebraska as the source of the Cyclospora outbreak in June.

Cyclospora cayetanensis is a parasite that causes an intestinal infection called cyclosporiasis.

Taylor Farms de Mexico stated that the decision allows the company to focus more on assisting the FDA in their investigation over the outbreak.

In order to continue supply for customers, the company consolidated production of salad mix and leafy greens to domestic crops and its other processing facilities in California, Colorado, Texas, Tennessee, Florida and Maryland.

The company expects the suspension of salad products to last several weeks; however, the production of broccoli products will continue in Mexico as broccoli is not subject to this investigation.
