DuPont Nutrition & Health has announced that a new assay for detecting foodborne Salmonella with the DuPont BAX system Institute.has been certified as Performance Tested method by the AOAC Research

This assay uses powerful polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology with real-time detection to provide fast, accurate results.

DuPont Nutrition & Health global diagnostics leader Doris Engesser-Sudlow said the company is pleased to add this certification to its BAX System line of advanced food diagnostics.

"Food companies that require certified testing methods can now use this Salmonella assay to help release products faster, saving inventory costs and extending shelf life," Engesser-Sudlow added.

The AOAC Research Institute is a non-profit, international, scientific organization that offers the Performance Tested Methods program, which provides an independent, third-party assessment of proprietary analytical methods to ensure that products perform as claimed.

Evaluation of this BAX System assay found it to be an effective method for detecting Salmonella in raw ground beef, chicken rinses, cream cheese, bagged lettuce, dry pet food and on stainless steel surfaces.

BAX System is used by food processing companies to detect pathogens or other organisms in raw ingredients, finished products and environmental samples. The automated system uses leading-edge technology, including PCR assays, tableted reagents and optimised media to detect Salmonella, Listeria species, and Listeria monocytogenes, among others.

DuPont Nutrition & Health, a business of US-based chemical company DuPont, offers bio-based ingredients and microbial diagnostic solutions to provide safer, healthier and more nutritious food.
